And so 2025 Begins!

It feels like we are not off to a great start. I skipped last weeks blog due to all the busy holiday things happening. And though the holiday time “off”- spent with family and friends- was amazing. It was exhausting. I am in desperate need of a day off.

Until that day comes (and I know it will) I DO have many things to celebrate, and I will focus on that.

First, let’s go back. 2024 was a big year for me in the art world! I was able to complete 2 big projects, both for which I was specifically sought out!! Like, they came to ME! Because they had seen my work and chose ME as a good fit for their project proposals. What an honor.

Both pieces of art were window installations in downtown GR- my home city.

For now, I’ll share about the first big project- in June, a piece to honor the 2 Native American tribes that own the McKay Towers building.

These first 2 windows feature a heron from the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish flag and 7 lily pads to represent the 7 grandfather teachings of the Nottawaseppi Huron Tribe.

Next, 7 stars like those that appear on the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish flag. Additionally, wildlife and plants that are native to Michigan can be found on each window art.

Finally, a stylized interpretation of the turtle found on the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi logo. “The circular back represents the Medicine Wheel and was made with many lines to signify the many different teachings of the Medicine Wheel” and the “rings are parts of the environment like the sun and flowers” (source here)

Plus, behind the turtle is a shape reminiscent of the shape of Michigan.

I had so much fun with this project. From carefully creating the design, to picking the pops of colors, to adding all the delicious details.

What a dream.

Next week I’ll share more on the other project. I know this entry has been more of a documenting… less of a journaling … is it even a blog? Not sure. But it’s been fun to share.

Till next time.
